We support our network of 300 partners to connect, coordinate and learn during all stages of the emergency cycle. 

Putting people at the heart of emergency planning and response to enable greater resilience and a better experience for people impacted by emergencies.

We support our network of over 300 partners across England to connect, coordinate, learn and strengthen relationships before, during and after emergencies. 

These voluntary, community and public sector organisations come together to form a partnership of representatives that better understand the needs of our diverse communities and the risks they face. 

Together we build a clearer understanding of how resilient people are and what help they may need, so we can prioritise and personalise support, and make sure rights are respected. By putting people at the heart of emergency planning and response, from the start, we can enable greater resilience and ensure a better experience for those impacted by emergencies.

 

We achieve our mission in three main ways:

 

SHARING LEARNING AND INSIGHT

We review our responses and collect recommendations and actions from different emergencies to inform planning and shape our capability offer, so the learnings from emergencies directly influence the lessons in our activity. We use data and insight to encourage responses which puts people's needs at the centre to support decision making in preparation for, and during, an emergency. Our collation of data ensures sector and statutory partners have access to this learning and insight and challenges them to put it into practice when needed.

BUILDING TRUSTED CONNECTIONS

We build and strengthen trusted connections to ensure that people across the sector are better prepared and can work together when an emergency strikes. We provide a framework to convene partners to build connections to connect more readily and rapidly. This involves sector and statutory partners, local community actors, emergency services and even the military to ‘make friends’ before an emergency so we are ready to respond effectively together when a major shock hits.

ENHANCING SKILLS AND CAPABILITY

We work with the sector to identify and build skills and capabilities to ensure a more human-centred approach to emergency preparedness and response – whether that’s building awareness and understanding of the unique needs of a specific community or exercising scenarios ahead of time to identify gaps and work to fill them. 

Our Equality Principles

Our human rights come from our shared humanity: we are all born equal in dignity and rights. The Emergencies Partnership works to ensure that people’s human rights are fulfilled in emergencies:

Right to be treated with dignity and to not be discriminated against

 

Universal programmes can replicate and deepen existing inequalities. On their own they can’t ensure that everyone’s rights are met. So when designing emergency responses we need to:

 

1. Identify the people and groups who are missed out and which of their rights are not being met 

2. Analyse the seriousness of the harm and the additional harms they face, not just the numbers of people affected

3. Co-produce a combination of universal and targeted services, bring together emergencies and equality expertise in research, design, delivery, and evaluation
