Join us to explore an emergencies focus of what the picture of volunteering in 2023 looks like, as we navigate coming out of the COVID-19 pandemic through a cost-of-living crisis, traditional volunteering is changing and organisations need to be adaptive and reactive to the changes." so it serves as an intro to the session as a whole.
9:45 - 10:45 - Volunteering in 2023
In the first half of this session hear updates and insight from three leaders in this space:
Laura Lowther, Vision for Volunteering Lead, will share the latest updates on their work to develop a volunteer toolkit and other learnings from their collaborative project to create a better future for volunteering.
Catherine Goodall, NCVO Senior Policy and Influencing Advisor, will summarise findings from their Time Well Spent volunteering report and their findings on what opportunities and challenges the sector faces.
Tapiwa Kamuruko, United Nations Volunteer Advisory Services, will provide an insight to the global trends in volunteerism with reference to their 2022 State of the World's Volunteerism report.
Followed by a panel question and answer session.
11:00-12:00 – Shared learning from across the sector
After a short break we’ll return to the volunteering conversation with an open forum for participants to share their approach to recruitment, retention and management of volunteers, exploring capacity for surge volunteering in emergencies and how volunteers build community resilience.
The focus of this session will be on participant engagement and audience contribution, with the sharing of resources, good practice and successes at tackling some of the challenges organisations are facing. With that in mind, consider if you have anything to add and come prepared to share. For example, it would be great to see examples of:
Community engagement resources
Online training tools and/or templates
Volunteer strategies for surge
Inclusive volunteering strategies
Building confidence/readiness to volunteer
Place based approaches to national strategies/programs
